This copy briefly inscribed by the author "For Ted and Jessica, Best wishes -] and signed twice. The inscription and one of the signatures is in fading ink from a faulty pen, and below he wrote "Your pen!" There is also a color snapshot of the actor and some laid in to the book. Mills made his film debut in The 'Midshipmaid' (1932), and came to prominence as Colley in the 1939 film version of 'Goodbye, Mr Chips', opposite Robert Donat. He took the lead in Great Expectations in 1936, and subsequently made his career playing traditionally British heroes such as Sir Robert Falcon Scott in Scott of the Antarctic (1949). He won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 1970 for his role as a mute in 'Ryan's Daughter.' In 1976 he was knighted for his acheievements in film. Item #2576
