London: Forster Groom & Co., Limited, 1910. First edition. 11" x 8.5". 237pp. Red cloth with gilt spine lettering. Light soiling and rubbing to cloth, but generally near fine condition. With a frontis portrait of Lord Sempill, and eight other full page illustrations. An account of an infamous incident in the history of the 42nd Royal Highlanders. The regiment was ordered to London in 1743 for an inspection by King George II. Rumors flew that they were to be shipped to the West Indies to fight in the War of the Austrian Succession, and many deserted for Scotland. They were soon recaptured; three of the insurgent leaders were executed in the Tower of London, and the remainder of the regiment shipped to Flanders and elswehere. Item #27234
