With a bit of rubbing, a small split on the cloth of the front hinge of volume two, and mild edge wear. A nice VG+ or better set of this scarce work. "The best first hand story of the ill fated invasion of New Mexico in 1841, an unsuccessful effort to extend the western border of the republic of Texas to the Rio Grande." Laid in to this copy are a typed letter signed from the author's daughter Georgina Kendall Fellowes, to Thomas Donnelly of the Lakeside Press which reprinted this book in 1929. Also laid in is a biographical sketch of the author with 12 lines of ink annotations by Georgina Kendall Fellowes. With frontispieces from lithographs of a buffalo hunt and of the Puente Nacional.
