Predator: Rape Madness and Injustice in Seattle.
Olsen, Jack.

New York: Delacorte Press , 1991. First edition 9.25" x 5.75. 366pp. Black paper covered boards with an orange cloth spine, in dust wrapper. Fine condition; fine jacket. This volume recounts the horrible story of McDonald Smith, a rapist and murderer, and Steve Titus, a Seattle businessman who was convicted of one of Smith's horrific crimes. This copy is inscribed by author Olsen to Seattle journalist and character Emmett Watson "For my old pal Emmett, with admiration, Jack Olsen." This volume won the American Mystery Award for Best True Crime book. This copy also contains a photocopy of an eight page letter that Olsen sent to Jack McLeod. Olsen marked the first page in red pencil "Emmett - FYI, Jack." The letter is Olsen's outraged response to what he voewed as McLeod's "venomous "review" of my book Predator....it wasn't an honest appraisal at all, but a disingenuous rebuttal to what [you] perceived as a book-length attack on The Seattle Times' regal and majestic image." The bitter letter was sent to nine news people in the Puget Sound area. Possibly the only extant copy of the letter, it is a brutally honest document showing Olsen's relationship with the mainstream press in Seattle. Hardcover (Item ID: 2452)
